Cancer Survivor Day 2026: In the middle of life
On June 13th, Cancer Survivors Day 2026 of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Zurich brought together cancer survivors, families, patient organizations, healthcare professionals, and researchers for a day dedicated to encounters, happiness, and life beyond cancer. Happily, we contributed with a plenary talk and a booth presenting our ongoing study ICanSelfCare.
The event was filled with inspiring conversations, practical workshops, music, movement, and opportunities to connect with others who understand the challenges and possibilities of life after cancer.
Prof. Dr. med. Claudia Witt contributed to the event with a plenary talk on self care after cancer, sharing practical strategies, tips, and digital resources that can help support well-being in everyday life.
At our booth, we had many meaningful conversations about self care and what kinds of support people would like to see in the future. As part of an upcoming initiative, the USZ website will offer short, easy-to-understand self- care instructions on topics such as sleep, relaxation, and symptom management. To help shape this content, visitors were invited to choose the topics that interested them most by placing a colored stone next to one of several themes: nutrition, movement, or wraps, pads, and aromatherapy. The booth also provided an opportunity to share information about our ongoing ICanSelfCare study, which explores how digitally delivered self care offers such as mindfulness and acupressure can support people affected by cancer.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, attended the talks, shared their experiences, and helped create such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Days like these are a reminder that cancer survivorship is not only about overcoming illness - it is also about finding ways to thrive, connect, and continue living fully in the middle of life.
