Complementary and Integrative Digital Health

Prof. Dr. med. Claudia M. Witt

As a Chair for Complementary and Integrative Digital Health, we help shape a future-oriented healthcare system where complementary medical therapies are integrated in meaningful ways. Our research focuses on digital health interventions, evidence synthesis, and sex and gender aspects. Our teaching is interprofessional and makes use of modern digital tools.

We are an interdisciplinary team and help shape a future-oriented health care in which complementary therapies are meaningfully and evidence-based integrated. With our participatory approach, we actively engage in dialogue with various interest-holders and work on our projects in an inter- and transdisciplinary manner.

Our particular interest lies in topics that will continue to play an important role in complementary and integrative healthcare in the future — including evidence synthesis, sex and gender aspects, and digital health.

Digitalization, particularly artificial intelligence, is fundamentally transforming healthcare.
“Digital health is a set of tools and services that use information and communication technologies (ICTs) to support and improve all stages of healthcare, from prevention and diagnosis to treatment, monitoring, and management of health conditions” (Definition according to WHO)

Complementary and integrative therapies are more often used by women than men.
"Sex (biological attributes) and gender (sociocultural factors) have a joint and interacting influence on health. Understanding and integrating sex and gender dimensions into health research and practice is important and necessary to ensure better clinical outcomes, improved and population health and a fairer access to healthcare for everyone in the society." (Definition according to SNF)

Our teaching in complementary and integrative medicine is interprofessional in orientation and integrates the latest digital developments.

We are in close exchange with important initiatives. At the University of Zurich, these include the Digital Society Initiative, UZH.ai, School of Transdisciplinary Studies, One Health Institute uand the Centre for Reproducible Science. In addition, we serve as a satellite of the Cochrane Complementary Medicine

Whenever possible, we make the results of our research publicly accessible and free of charge.
