Collaborative Design and Development of a Patient-Centered Digital Health App for Supportive Cancer Care: Participatory Study
The future of supportive cancer care may be digital.
In our new study, patients and health care professionals highlighted the need for a digital health app to improve patient–health care professional communication, digitalize supportive care screening and processes, and support patient self-efficacy. Based on these needs, we co-designed and integrated OncoSupport+ into the clinical workflow for supportive cancer care.
The app consists of:
- A patient dashboard to record patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and provide access to personalized supportive care information and contact details.
- A nurse dashboard to visualize patient-reported data and support nursing consultations.
Participants identified ease of use, workflow integration, introduction by health care professionals, and technical support as potential facilitators for adoption, while internet anxiety emerged as a possible barrier.
